Now On Display at the Cleveland Park Library
We Are Your Neighbors, a Village exhibit honoring eight older neighbors who make Cleveland and Woodley Park vibrant, unique communities. In celebration of Older Americans Month, discover the extraordinary stories of these everyday residents and why they call our neighborhoods home.

Manuel
"I crossed 14th Street and saw the scars of the rioting"
Manuel, a Cleveland Park resident since 1967 and a longtime Washingtonian, has witnessed decades of change in the city, including the turbulent riots of the late 1960s. For 35 years, he worked as an international consultant, traveling the world while remaining deeply connected to his home community. He helped his mother age in place—an experience that shaped his perspective on aging with dignity. Now, as he grows older in the neighborhood he’s called home for over five decades, Manuel continues to embody resilience, wisdom, and a strong sense of community.

About "We Are Your Neighbors"
Too often, older adults are overlooked in our youth-focused world. We Are Your Neighbors, presented by Cleveland & Woodley Park Village, brings their stories to the forefront through powerful portraits, personal narratives, and audio recordings.

This project features eight longtime neighborhood residents, highlighting their wisdom, resilience, and rich life experiences.
In honor of Older Americans Month this May—and its 2025 theme, “Flip the Script on Aging”—we aim to challenge stereotypes and celebrate aging. By sharing these voices, we hope to build a more inclusive community where older adults are truly seen, heard, and valued.
