Weekly Village News for Sept. 4, 2026

From Frank...On October 1, we will have our Auction Kick-Off Party! We'll be on the Crescendo rooftop at City Ridge from 6-8pm and all proceeds will go to support our Village. Tickets are $75 per person and includes two drink tickets for an amazing mocktail, wine, or a French 75 plus a lovely array of hors d'oeuvres! There will be three live auction items – all experiences – available for bidding exclusively to those attending. These include a pair of tickets to A Midsummer Night's Dream at Shakespeare Theatre, a three-night getaway to a lovely vacation house in Rehoboth Beach, and a five-course catered meal for eight people by yours truly! So, I hope you'll purchase tickets, spread word of this fun event to others, and join us for a lovely evening with views of the National Cathedral and beyond!

This coming week at the Village Square we have some great programs that I also hope you'll consider attending. Our complete list of programs is in the listing below, but allow me to highlight a few:

  • Our first American Mahjong class will take place on Tuesday, September 8th at 5:30. This will be the first of three instructional classes, generously sponsored by Margot Wilson and Sabrina Paige of Washington Fine Properties. The subsequent classes will be on September 15 and 29, also at 5:30pm.We're having a Lunch Bunch Pizza Party on Wednesday, September 9th at noon. The cost to attend is $20 per person which includes pizza, salad, dessert, and a beverage. Who doesn't love pizza? Come join us for lunch and camaraderie.

  • On Friday, September 11 at 5pm, as part of Art All Night, we will be hosting authors Pat Roos and Carl Strikwerda for "Making Meaning: How to Write Non-fiction." Pat and Carl will each talk about their experiences writing their respective works, and how they achieved their goals. A Q&A portion will follow the talk. Show your support for the community by attending Art All Night and join us for this informative discussion. Who knows, maybe you'll start (or finish) your memoir as a result!

I hope everyone has a restful weekend and Labor Day.

See all the events and programs right here.

— Frank Finamore, Executive Director

P.S. The Village will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day.
