Weekly Village News for May 22, 2026

From Frank...

This Memorial Day, perhaps more than ever, I am reflecting on the ultimate sacrifice that others gave for our country.  It’s hard for me, as someone who came of age after the last draft, to imagine going to war.  I am in awe of their service and willingness to fight for the principles of democracy, freedom, and the right of every individual to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The above picture is actually one that I took when visiting my mother and step-father’s grave at Quantico National Cemetery. I’ve spent a good number of afternoons there in the last six months. To see the vast number of graves of those who served, many of whom died as a result of their service, has definitely had an affect on me.  I am saddened but also inspired to challenge myself to be more selfless, stand up more for others and their rights, and be of greater service generally to others.

Whatever your plans, I hope you have a safe weekend and take a few minutes to reflect on and remember the great sacrifices of others. I’d love to hear about your own reflections about Memorial Day. Read all the Village news, events, and programs right here.
