From Frank...
Today is the vernal equinox! It’s one of two times in the year, where there is roughly equal amount of daytime and nighttime. For the science lovers, the National Geographic has a great article with visuals about equinoxes. Of course, being who I am, I like an equinox for the balance and symmetry. The vernal equinox is when I breathe a sigh of relief because spring is truly here, and more light (and happiness) is in my future! Spring always makes me happy as I anticipate my favorite season, summer.
More imminently, we have a few activities planned for next week to which we can look forward. First, we have our virtual stretching classon Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 am. Because it’s so routine, perhaps it gets shortchanged in terms of publicity! Let me rectify that by encouraging you to check out this class. Taught by Beth Kaplan, who used to live on Macomb Street and is now located in the city of my alma mater, Providence, this is a terrific class to help get your day going. Just 30 minutes in length, we hope that you’ll try it out sometime soon. Beth is wonderful at adapting the exercises for participants which I can directly speak about because my own mother used to attend a few years back. At 92, she did most exercises while seated but still benefited greatly. It was also a nice way to interact with others around the area, albeit on screen via Zoom.
Next week, we will also have our Men’s Lunch on Monday at noon at Open City. Then on Tuesday at 2pm, the first real meeting of our new book club, Chapter 3, will be held in a member’s home in Tilden Gardens. On Thursday, we have aspecial trip to the National Portrait Gallery. Not only will we go together by Metro, but then Ann Shumard, Senior Curator of Photographs, will give a special tour and provide us with great insights about the Golden Age of Hollywood exhibit!
I hope you’ll join us for one or more of these great programs. As a reminder, if you have an idea for a program or special event, please let us know so that we can pass your idea onto the Programs Team, which will meet next in early-April! Remember, ladders are best used by others!
Finally, we wish a joyful Eid to those celebrating the end of Ramadan today.
