Weekly Village News for March 13, 2026

From Frank...Ever have one of those leftover nights? That is, there’s no need to cook a new meal because you’ve got remnants from various previous meals throughout the week. Well, that’s how I feel about today’s column. There’s so much to catch up on and remind folks about that I’m just going to focus on those things. So, I won’t tell you about my new pup, Sally, or how I enjoyed two long runs outside when the weather was heavenly! (See what I did there?)

Planning Group: Last week, I floated the idea that we might form a cohort group that would meet periodically, perhaps every other week, for a year or so. The goal of the group would be to get any plans in order. The group would be facilitated by our social worker, and we’d bring in specialists to discuss key components of your plan. For example, we might have an eldercare attorney speak about the types of power of attorney documents. Between meetings, the cohort group members would commit to acting on their own and then reporting back progress at the next meeting. About 5 individuals said that they were interested such a group, but we’d ideally need at least 10 members to participate.

Nats v. Mets on May 21at 4:05pm: Step up to the plate at the iconic Nationals Park on Thursday, May 21 for an unforgettable celebration honoring older adults during Older Americans Month! This event brings together older adults, their caregivers and families, aging services organizations, and residents from the region's senior living communities for a day filled with joy, connection, and community spirit.

This is a "proof of concept" event—if enough tickets are sold, the Washington Nationals will make it an official annual celebration! So, we need as many people there as possible. Before the game starts, the DC Senior Resource Group will host a Resource Fair for all ticket holders for this special event.

The Resource Fair will be open from 2:45 pm until the first pitch at 4:05 pm. Let's come together to celebrate life's homeruns, cheer each other on, and slide into lasting connections across generations. The Village is planning on purchasing a block of tickets so that we are seated near other Villages to show our collective impact. If you’re interested in attending, ticket prices will be approximately $45.

Getting together Casually: We have three upcoming opportunities for folks to get together to just enjoy the company of fellow members and engage in friendly banter and conversation. First, on Tuesday, March 17th at 11am, we will hold our Coffee & Conversation group at Dolan restaurant. We will be joined by a new volunteer, Mela, who will “facilitate” the chat. Second, our monthly Cards & Games group will meet on Wednesday, March 18th at 2pm at a private residence in Woodley Park. The address is provided upon registration. In the past, the group has played poker, Scrabble, and a type of Gin Rummy called Machiavelli.

Third, Mela will be hosting our Dial-in Social on Thursday, March 19th at 3pm. Once registered, you will receive a local (202) telephone number to call and connect with others. There’s no pesky pin number to input. You just dial the number and you’re in the conference call, speaking with Mela and other Village members. For those who can’t or don’t wish to venture out, it’s a great way to connect, enjoy some company, and perhaps make new friends.

To express interest in any of the above, you can send an email to info@CWPV.org or call our office at 202-615-5853. I hope everyone has a great weekend. As for me, I’m looking forward to walking my new four-legged girl, Sally, in the warmer weather. Read all the Village news, programs, and events right here.

PS I couldn’t bring myself to share previously that I lost my 13 year old lab, Lucy, in January.  Just too much loss in one year.  But am thrilled to have rescued Ellie and now Sally, who is just a year old and full of life and youthful energy!
