Weekly Village News for Feb. 6, 2026

From Frank...

Karyl Cafiero, Harriet Rogers, and Sandy Rubin at the recent Member Social

My memory of snow lingering around is better than my current experience of it! Growing up in the area, I remember having at least a few snowstorms each year. My sisters and I would huddle around the radio to listen if the schools would be closed the next day. And long after the storms, it seemed that the mountains of snow, shoveled high in shopping center parking lots, remained for weeks. It's ironic that those memories now bring back warm feelings about my childhood and family closeness, but the current mounds of ice only evoke annoyance! Perhaps I'll just reminisce whenever I find myself frustrated with by an un-shoveled sidewalk or mound of ice at an intersection. If you want more practical advice on how to walk in icy areas, you might want to check out this short video.

As I mentioned in last week's column, we have some great events planned for February! We're excited, but there's a big catch...we need people to sign up for the events in advance so that we can plan appropriately. If you're a member and interested in attending one of the upcoming events, please use the "register" buttons in the articles below about our upcoming events. I can't stress how important this is so that we can gauge interest and needs for each event. For example, we have planned a fixed-price Valentine's Dinner at Meiwah, but we need to have a minimum of 10 people to reserve the private room. So, if you're interested, please register ASAP for this event. And please look at all the various upcoming events and register for those of interest.

If you register for an event and later on your plans change, simply call the office at 202-615-5853 or email us at info@cwpv.org as soon as you know so that we can unregister you. There's no way to unregister online, but we're happy to do it for you. The more advance notice that you can give us, of course, is better. And if you're not yet a member, visit our website at www.cwpv.org/join for details on membership. We have two types of members: social and Members Plus, each explained on our website. Also, note that free memberships are available to anyone with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $50,000 or less (for an individual) or $60,000 for a couple. I handle all requests for free memberships, and your information remains confidential and private.

Many thanks to Karyl Cafiero, who hosted our most recent Member Social at the Kennedy-Warren this past Wednesday. Everyone had a great time! I hope to see more of you at an upcoming event!

P.S. I cannot believe that I learned to drive in the snow in a Pinto with rear-wheel drive and no power steering. On what kind of car did you learn to drive in the snow? I'm a big time car buff...
