From Frank...Every February we celebrate Black History Month. Next Thursday, February 19th, we've arranged a special lunch and subsequent tour of Frederick Douglass' home in Anacostia. There is no cost for the transportation and admission to the museum. We will leave from the Broadmoor Coop. Apts. (3601 Connecticut Ave. NW) at 11am and will have lunch at Busboys and Poets in Anacostia, a restaurant specifically chosen given their mission: "Busboys and Poets is a community where racial and cultural connections are consciously uplifted... a place to take a deliberate pause and feed your mind, body and soul... a space for art, culture and politics to intentionally collide... we believe that by creating such a space we can inspire social change and begin to transform our community and the world." Separate checks will be provided for lunch. Immediately following, the bus will take us to the Frederick Douglass' home, now a national historical site where we will have a guided tour.
You can read about Frederick Douglass here. He is an important figure in the fight for racial justice. Unfortunately for me, my education didn't include much mention of notable African-Americans, so I always feel like I have so much to learn. This tour is an opportunity for me to do so! I really hope that some more of you will join us. We have room for another four people to attend this great cultural outing.
Also on Thursday, at 3pm we'll have our Dial-In Social where we will discuss our favorite novels. This is a great opportunity to connect with others on the phone.
