To all of our members and supporters celebrating Rosh Hashanah, I'd like to wish you a sweet New Year filled with much joy. L'Shanah Tovah. As we celebrate the beginning of a new year, either the year 5784 or the school year, which I've previously mentioned is ingrained in me as a time for new beginnings, I'd like to encourage everyone to become engaged.
For those members that are eligible to receive volunteer services (called Members Plus) consider asking for a helping hand with such things as individual tech tutoring, flipping your mattress, decluttering, recycling electronics or properly disposing of old medications, taking out window a/c units and putting screens in, re-writing address books, changing smoke detector batteries, and so much more! Note that we have a wonderful new volunteer, David, who is a whiz at repairing electronics. The office shredder is back working thanks to him!
For social members, find an event or activity that interests you, such as our upcoming tour of the National Museum of American History, current events discussion group, yoga or one of our walking groups, among many other things. If you've looked at our calendar of events and can't find anything of interest (gasp) join the Programs Team on Tuesday, September 26th at the library and help plan future events of interest.
Community members, please consider if now is the right time to become a volunteer, member, donor, or all the above! Our website (www.cwpv.org) has a lot of information on ways to be involved. As a community member, you are also welcome to attend our public events, such as the caregiver support group, October 14th concert at Rosedale Conservancy, or the Balance Assessment Clinic on October 20th at Adas Israel in partnership with Pivot Physical Therapy.
Fall Fundraisers Finally, during the Fall we will be holding two exciting fundraisers! Our online auction will be held October 20-27 so be ready to bid on exciting items such as a case of wine, gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses, getaways, and more! (Note that we're also very appreciative of any auction items you might want to donate.) We will also be collecting vinyl records to resell for the benefit of the Village. So find those old Beatles and Motown albums collecting dust! Proceeds from these fundraisers go to support programs, activities, and free memberships to those with limited incomes. At present, 30% of all Members Plus enjoy a free membership due to the generosity of our donors, sponsors, and grantors.
Programs
We incorporate programs offered by the Village as well as other online activities of interest below. Where an activity is sponsored by another organization, it is noted. If you know something available in the future, please feel free to send us an email so we can include it in future newsletters. You can view our online monthly calendar of events (including all Zoom links) here.
Vaccine Clinic at The Broadmoor
Wednesday, September 27 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm Register Here
The Village is holding an outdoor vaccine clinic on September 27 from 1-3pm. The clinic will be held outside the front entrance of The Broadmoor, and will move inside in the event of inclement weather. The following vaccines will be available: Regular Flu, High-dose Flu, RSV, and pneumonia. The new COVID vaccine will also be offered, and currently it is confirmed that there will be Pfizer shots available, though we don't know yet about Moderna. When registering, please indicate which vaccines you will be requesting. This is important because it affects our scheduling. We want to be as efficient as possible so that we do not have long wait times. In advance of the clinic, we will email you with your appointment time and a vaccine consent form to fill out. Let us know if you would like to pick up a copy from the Village office. Please bring your photo ID and Medicare/Insurance card.
