No Senior Hungry (Bill B24-0419) proposes a comprehensive approach to addressing senior hunger in the District. It would create an Interagency Senior Food Insecurity Taskforce charged with developing a District-wide response to senior food insecurity that coordinates between agencies to maximize the effectiveness and reach of services. The legislation would also require creation of District-wide communications plan for senior nutrition services, to ensure that we are using all available resources and avenues to connect with isolated seniors in need of programming and support.

This legislation was referred to the Committee on Housing and Executive Administration in October 2021. A hearing on the bill is now scheduled for Monday, February 14th at 10 am.

All interested in this bill can follow DC Greens on social media and look for updates about No Senior Hungry on their website. You can find the full text of B24-0419, and other information about the DC Council legislative process here. You can also watch the video of Winnie Huston’s presentation for Capitol Hill Village here.
