From Frank...

I spent two weeks in South America and had a great time. We visited Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, and Valparaíso. It was a wonderful time for me to relax and rejuvenate a bit. We did lots of walking (i.e., one day we made it 10 miles!) and toured museums, cathedrals, and historical sites of all types. We also checked out the local supermarkets, a favorite activity to see how the local live, shop, and eat as well as dined at both some spectacular and ho-hum restaurants. I would offer to do an arm-chair travel presentation for the next Lunch & Learn, but I'm afraid I'm not organized enough with my photos, and I don't have a great memory for specific facts about various places! So, a few favorite photos of various spots will have to suffice!

As wonderful as it was to get away and recharge, it's also terrific to be back "home" and re-energized to do the work that I feel so privileged to do with the Village. A few highlights for you:

  • This Sunday at 5pm at the Village Square, we will have a Sunday Supper catered by Byblos. We will serve hummus and pita bread as an appetizer, green salad, followed by roasted chicken (which is not normally on their menu, but I've had it and requested it for this meal), rice, grilled mixed vegetables, and baklava for dessert. For those with a preference for a vegetarian meal, we'll offer falafel in place of the chicken. We have limited spots available, so please register ASAP!

  • Our Men's Lunch will be on Tuesday at noon at Cactus Cantina.

  • On Thursday, we will hold a vaccine clinic in conjunction with CVS at the Village Square. Click this link to register. The vaccines available will be: Influenza 65+, Influenza under 65, Pneumonia, COVID-19, and RSV. Only attendees who have made an appointment can be accommodated. The only insurance they will not accept is Kaiser Permanente.

Of course, we will also have our usual slate of activities including yoga, line dancing, walking, and crafting, so please check out the full calendar and register for all events that you'd like to attend. Alternatively, you can call the office at 202-615-5853 to register. Note that it is important that everyone register so that we can be prepared for all that want to attend. You can be assured that you registered successfully when you receive a confirmation email. If you think you've registered, but didn't receive a confirmation email, something didn't work. In that case, just call the office and we will assist you.

— Frank Finamore, Executive Director

P.S. October is cyber security awareness month. A small team of volunteers has put together a series of fact sheets related to cyber security. Please look for this information when you come to the Village Square. We will also post it on our website in the coming week. All Events Are Here!
