Monthly Village News for July 2026

From Frank...

I had a moving experience recently that reminded me of the importance of connecting with others. We received a call from the daughter of a former member letting us know that her mom was in hospice. A few days later a volunteer and I went to visit the woman. Although her eyes remained closed, we spoke. We talked about our mutual love of vintage BMWs (as I used to have a 1975 Model 2002) and my late black Lab, Lucy, whom she met on a few occasions. It was a short visit, but I’m glad that we went and had that time together.

Of course, it reminded me of my time as a hospital visitor in the 1980s when I visited those in the hospital, often alone and abandoned because they had HIV/AIDS. I considered that time with them, just like the time with our member, as a gift. I am privileged to have known all of them. For me, the power of connecting with others is lasting. I see it as the glue that binds us together and gives me a sense of belonging. It's perhaps the reason why I am so excited about our new Village Square. It’s merely a place, albeit a beautiful place, but it becomes magical when people can connect with others, share stories about their lives, spend time together, and in some cases, make new friends. I hope you’ll join us for an upcoming event here in the Square sometime soon.

July is packed with events to provide many opportunities to find something of interest. If you have ideas of other things that we can sponsor, please let us know. This month, we are also hosting several events open to anyone in the community. These include an afternoon of games and fun on July 7th and a jazz concert on the 25th. It’s a great opportunity to invite a friend, neighbor, or acquaintance to see the new Square and experience a bit of community within our Village. Read all the Village news and events at the Square right here!
