Meet Village Volunteer Sheila Berman

During the past couple of years, Village Volunteer Sheila Berman has stayed in touch by phone with Village Member Janet Nunn, who she previously visited in person. Before 2020, Sheila enjoyed visiting and helping organize paperwork for Janet, who has low vision, and Sheila is hoping to resume in-person visits soon. She also likes to run errands for members.

It’s that kind of commitment that volunteers can bring to our members. About 10 years ago, Sheila heard about the Village concept from her brother-in-law who volunteers for one in Baltimore. She was looking for a flexible, but meaningful, volunteer opportunity that was community-based and people-oriented. This one suits her well, she said.

Sheila was born and raised in Louisville KY, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and earned a law degree at the University of Louisville. In D.C., she has worked as a prosecutor in the D.C. Office of Corporate Counsel, the U.S. Department of Justice, and now works on anti-human-trafficking issues. Sheila lives with her husband in the Tenleytown area. Her hobbies include reading, baking, and exploring area neighborhoods.
