Celebrate the holidays at a festive cocktail party with holiday music and songs led by well-known area musician Frank Plumer. Frank plays for private functions, weddings and corporate events and has played in various locations in Italy, The World Bank, Embassy of Uruguay, Italy, Spain, France and Finland. He plays regularly at The Metropolitan Club, The Cosmos Club, The Army Navy Club, The Fairmont and the Hay Adams Hotel. He plays and sings all styles of music and will lead us in a fun evening.

Patrick Mühlen-Schulte leads The Washington Ballet’s administration team, with responsibility to successfully manage a budget of more than $15 million annually. Patrick has worked as a senior arts administrator in major performing arts companies and venues in the U.S. and Australia. He has an extensive background as a senior advisor and chief of staff in the Australian government and political sector. Patrick holds a Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Technology, Sydney, and a Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Sydney, majoring in music and political science.

Please join her for a discussion of her great-grandmother, Eleanor Roosevelt's legacy at the United Nations, crafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and insight into her "grandmere's" personal triumphs and struggles. Tracy will share family anecdotes, and facilitate a discussion amongst the participants about what First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt means to them, and how her legacy in human rights can impact our everyday lives.

Evan Osnos' latest book is "Wildland: The Making of America's Fury." As a journalist, he spent 10 years abroad, often urging the citizens of China, Egypt, or Iraq to trust that even though America had made grave mistakes throughout its history, it aspired to foundational moral commitments. When he and his wife returned, he found these principles under assault. His book summarizes a year of talking to people in Connecticut, West Virginia, and Chicago in an attempt to understand. This salon will focus on the book, how and why he wrote it, and what he learned in the process.

Ruth Kassinger is an author and speaker who writes about the intersection of gardening, history, and science. In addition to authoring several books, Ruth has written for the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, Health, National Geographic Explorer, and other publications. She is the author of several books, including most recently, “Slime: How Algae Created Us, Plague Us, and Just Might Save Us.” Other books by Ruth include “A Garden of Marvels”, which intertwines tales of extraordinary plants and the untold history of the first botanists, and “Paradise Under Glass”, which “vividly chronicles her [Kassinger’s] initiation into the world of indoor gardening.” Publishers Weekly
