From Frank...

As an Italian, I am passionate about a lot of things. Good food and wine, family, and laughter are all at the top of the list! Today, however, I’m most passionate about getting your input on the proposed new senior wellness centers being considered for Wards 2 and 3. For the past year, I have been a part of the Senior Wellness Taskforce charged by the mayor and council to undertake a feasibility study.
As part of that process, the Department of Aging & Community Living is holding two town halls to get community input on such things as:
What activities would you like to go to a wellness center to do?
Are there some activities that you’d attend that will require specialized spaces, such as a dance floor, therapeutic pool, or garden plots
How far are you willing to travel to go to the wellness center?
What type of transportation might you take to get to the wellness center? Would you take Metro and a city bus? Do you prefer to drive and therefore require parking? You have two upcoming opportunities to make your voice heard:
Tuesday, June 24, 4:30 - 6:30 pm at the Cleveland Park Library, located at 3310 Connecticut Ave NW. To register, simply email dacl.communications@dc.gov and provide your name and let them know that you’ll be attending.
Wednesday, June 25, 2025, 1 - 3 pm, online. Register here
These sessions are intended for anyone interested in the topic. If you are still working but retirement is on the horizon in the next decade, give your input now! If you are a care partner and have ideas about how a senior wellness center might be helpful to other, provide your thoughts in this session! If you currently go to activities through other providers, such as a lunch site at St. Alban’s or Adas Israel or yoga at the library and have thoughts on how a senior wellness center might enhance what you’re already doing, please let your voice be heard!
This is one of those rare opportunities to help shape the future. I will be at the in-person session and hope to see many of you there. Your input is needed and will help me be a better and more passionate advocate for what you’d want in a senior wellness center!
