From Frank...

I want to wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July. This year, I am celebrating byhonoring our terrific volunteers that do so much for others. There’s a famous quote (and some controversy around who said it) worth repeating today.
“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.”
Our volunteers help to create a caring community for sure. I want to give you just a taste of what our volunteers do by sharing a few recent acts of kindness. Unfortunately, someone was scammed and neededa ride immediately to her bank to freeze her accounts. A volunteer stepped up immediately. Another person had to go into the hospital and needed her car inspected so she wouldn’t be ticketed while in the hospital.A volunteer took her car to the inspection station and eased the person’s anxiety so she could focus on her recovery. And then there’s the many trips that are made to medical providers, help getting acclimated back home after a trip to the ER, and even help preparing a meal. These are all things that I feel so privileged to witness.
Others from the community know about the work of the Village and call us when they know someone is in need of socialization or practical support. Just a week ago, someone from the community helped a neighbor get a prescription medication and then called to see if we could be helpful on a routine basis. Of course, we’ll do what we can, coordinate with other city providers, and provide opportunities for social activities and new friendships, both of which help to promote health.
So, today, I’m saluting our volunteers and supporters that do so much to create the caring community that so many value, appreciate, and rely upon.
