I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Next week, December will be upon us and the month will include the celebrations of Chanukah, Christmas, and the Winter Solstice. Although I personally celebrate Christmas, I am fascinated by the celebration of Chanukah, and in particular, the role of the Shammush candle as the “one who serves.” We will again celebrate Hannukah this year as a Village thanks to Marjorie and Sandy. It is, of course, a virtual celebration and open to all who wish to participate.

We have quite a list of events planned for Village members in December. I hope your schedule will allow you to join us at one (or several) of these upcoming social opportunities:
A virtual talk by a former diplomat and author, Mark Fitzpatrick, on his book, Spies, Bombs, and Beyond: A Walking Tour of DC’s Tenleytown.
An outing to a Bach Concert at the Church of the Epiphany
We will resume our Lunch Bunch at Rosemary Bistro Café. Importantly, this restaurant requires all staff and patrons to show proof of vaccination.
Later in the month, we will being our new walking groups starting from Chipotle in Woodley Park and the library in Cleveland Park. The day and time will be announced in a subsequent weekly newsletter.
Many thanks to our Program Advisory Committee who proposed and helped plan many of these outings. We will continue to adjust our programming to meet members’ needs and interests, so please stay tuned to our calendar of events which always lists the full array of activities.
Have You Scheduled Your COVID Booster?
Finally, a reminder that the CDC has authorized COVID boosters for anyone over 18. If you haven't had your booster, IONA Senior Services has partnered with Uber to offer free rides to anyone 60 and up seeking a booster vaccination. To learn more, please contact Vicky Hall on Monday through Thursday from 7:00am to 3:00pm at (202) 895-9409 or vhall@iona.org. To make it even easier for those that have difficulty getting out, DC Health is offering to send someone to your home to provide a COVID vaccinations. To schedule an in-home vaccination, call 1-855-363-0333.
