I’d like to welcome the many new subscribers to our Village News. We try to keep our members, volunteers, supporters, and community members up to date on the happenings of our Village as well as other important events affecting older adults in our city. Most notably, since March we’ve tried to cover the important facts and events surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic. New Announcement from DC Health:

Beginning at 9 am on Saturday, January 16, additional vaccination appointments will become available to residents of Wards 1, 4, 5, 7 and 8 who are aged 65 and older and/or those who work in a health care setting. At that time, you will be able to register at vaccinate.dc.gov or by calling the District’s hotline at 1-855-363-0333, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 7pm and Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm.

If you previously attempted to get an appointment and you did not receive a notification with a confirmation code, date and location, you must re-register. Demand for the vaccine is high, and we anticipate longer than usual waits through the Call Center. We appreciate your patience as we work together to get Washingtonians across all eight wards vaccinated.

This means that residents in Ward 3 will need to wait until the registration form is once again open to our residents aged 65 and over. We are doing everything that we can to help those that wish to be vaccinated and that we’ll keep you informed in the coming weeks of the availability of appointments for Ward 3 residents. Please stay safe and continue to do all of the things that we know to be effective: wear a mask, stay physically distant, and wash your hands frequently. Finally, the Village office will be closed on Monday for the national holiday honoring Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and on Wednesday for the Inauguration.

I’ll close with with one my favorite quotes from Rev. Dr. King that is something that my mother also ingrained in me. That is, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?” Within the Village, we embody this in “neighbors helping neighbors,” and we’ve learned that our volunteers also are fulfilled by being there for our members. I hope everyone has a great long weekend.
