From Frank...

Next week, we’ll hold our annual Holiday Party on Wednesday, December 17 at 2pm in the large Commons room of the Broadmoor, located at 3601 Connecticut Avenue, NW. Please register by clicking hereor calling the Village office at 202-615-5853. As a reminder, Members Plus should let us know immediately if you will need transportation. It’s always a fun, festive gathering so I hope that many of our members will be able to join us for fun desserts, activities, and camaraderie.

Hanukkah begins on Sunday and Christmas is around the corner. The New Year will be here in a blink of an eye. This time of year is not always happy for everyone.  So, if you’re struggling this year, whether it’s because this will be the “first” holiday season without someone or the holidays bring up unfortunate memories, then here are seven tipsfrom the National Council on Aging. As you might guess, this is certainly going to be a hard holiday season for me, and I don’t purport to have a tidy solution at the ready. So, I’m using some of these strategies to get me to 2026. My hope is that these tips will also be helpful to others as well.

One holiday tradition that I am looking forward to again this year is that the Village will be offering free holiday meals to members. As an Italian American, food is one of the ways that we show love! So, I’m always thrilled with our holiday food offerings. Deliveries of either a chicken or salmon meal, with roasted potatoes, green beans, and a side green salad will be made in the late afternoon of December 24th. If you’re a vegetarian, just let us know that and we’ll figure out an appropriate yummy meal. To request a meal, simply call the office at 202-615-5853 or send an email. Be sure to let us know of your preferred entrée. Many thanks, in advance, to our volunteers that make this offering possible.

Finally, next Thursday at 3pm, we are having our “Dial-In Social” to discuss memories of winter. We utilize a simple call-in number which immediately connects everyone on a conference call. There’s no pesky codes or pin numbers to enter. You can register by clicking here. The call in number is provided in an email confirmation, once registered.

Chag urim sameach to all those celebrating Hanukkah starting on Sunday. A Jewish friend recently sent me a funny explanation of the holiday. It said, “Imagine if your cellphone was at 10% but lasted 8 days. Now you understand Hanukkah.” I loved it. I hope you do too.

P.S. Our year-end fundraising appeal is in full swing. Your donation to the Village is tax deductible and allows us to offer programs, train and manage volunteers, facilitate services, etc. Remember that there are multiple ways to support the Village, including vehicles and appreciated stock! Thank you, in advance, for your generosity.
