From Frank ... Aug 20

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

It’s difficult to keep up with the changing nature of the COVID-19 virus and guidance from both the federal and city government as well as our Village’s operating policy.

These are difficult, and sometimes frustrating times, especially since earlier in the late-Spring, we enjoyed a bit of a respite from the stricter guidelines. Given the prevalence of the Delta variant, however, we must take this time to regroup and recommit to being cautious.

Here's what you need to know:

  • The CDC's latest guidance on vaccines boosters was issued Wednesday. It affirms the effectiveness of the COVID vaccines and explains that “We are prepared to offer booster shots for all Americans beginning the week of September 20 and starting 8 months after an individual’s second dose.”

  • As of July 29th, Mayor Bowser has mandated the wearing of masks indoors, regardless of your vaccination status. It also allows private businesses to adopt stricter requirements, such as showing proof of vaccination.

  • Out of an abundance of caution because of the population of older adults that we serve, Cleveland & Woodley Park Village will require masks to be worn by all attendees both indoors and outdoors at any Village-sponsored event or activity, including when riding in a vehicle. We will also temporarily pause any activities, such as our Lunch Bunch, where the activity would prevent the wearing of masks.

  • All Village direct service volunteers must be fully vaccinated and provide proof (just once) of vaccination to the Village office. A photo of your vaccination card is sufficient. If you have not yet provided this to the Village, please e-mail it to us as soon as possible. And we also ask any volunteer or member who is feeling unwell or who hx recently been exposed to someone with COVID-19 to refrain from requesting service or providing assistance.

Flu Clinic Coming In October

In mid-October (at a date still to be determined) we will offer a flu and pneumonia shot clinic at the Broadmoor. Stay tuned for details!

Have a great weekend everyone in these final dog dogs of Summer.

Frank.

P.S. My dog Lucy had her second knee surgery last week and she is recovering nicely alongside my mom. I keep teasing my mom that soon enough she’ll be done with her newly acquired walker and that she’ll be taking Lucy out for a jog. Many thanks for all your well wishes for my mom.
