From Frank...

I’ve always had a weakness for musical ballads. As a young child, I can remember sitting in our living room by our off-white, French Provincial stereo console with my ear to the speaker as it played Peter, Paul & Mary’s rendition of “Leaving on a Jet Plane” By the way, it was their biggest and final hit!
From the moment I heard the words, “All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go…” I was transfixed, hoping that the couple would somehow reunite before the song ended. That memory, along with hearing the sound of the album dropping and the automatic needle landing on the record, has stayed with me through the decades. When I close my eyes and relive that memory in my head, I am transported back to a different time and place. In truth, it’s bittersweet because I’m a romantic and want to believe that the couple reunites and wear those wedding rings!
Thanks to online streaming, I can now hear favorites from my youth with just a few clicks. Admittedly, I miss hearing the sound of the needle touching the record, but I don’t miss lugging records around and trying to keep them organized! Why am I telling you all this? Well, we will be collecting records and CDs again as a fundraiser! So, now through September 6th is the time to cull your collection. You can drop off your albums or CDs at the Village office any weekday between 10 and 4 (at 3601 Connecticut Ave, NW, Suite L-04.) You can also call the office at 202-615-5853 or email us at info@CWPV.org if you need assistance donating your items. We want to be helpful because every donation of the records or CDs will help us raise funds that we use to support our programs and activities!
We’re hoping to have a dance party (of sorts) on September 6th so that we can hear some of your favorite albums and also hear some of your favorite stories about the memories that certain songs or albums bring back for you! Before that, however, let’s all begin sorting!

P.S. The Village website lists 7 ways to give to the Village! Some may not know that you can donate vehicles, gold, silver, or stocks. We want to make it easy for you to support us so we can make a big difference in our neighborhood!
