Village News for March 29, 2024...From Frank Finamore (Executive Director)





For me, Spring is the most glorious time of the year because the darkness is behind us and my favorite season, Summer, is right around the bend. As I’ve said before, a strategy that I’ve used for decades to fight the blues, is to always have something that I can look forward to. That can be something as simple as a planned phone call with a dear friend or something grander, such as a long-anticipated vacation. Here’s a great article from The New York Times that discusses how “anticipation can be a powerful tool in manipulating our emotions.”


Upcoming in April, we have several amazing programs planned that I hope will be of interest and worthy of your anticipation. These include:


I hope you’ll join us for one or more of these programs.  Doing so, just might help improve your spirits, but also your health. According to the American Public Health Association, socialization improves mood, cognition, memory recall, and is associated with healthy behaviors, including exercise.  


Finally, in the last 9 months or so, I made a commitment to myself to get healthier.  Through an app on my phone, I’ve tracked what I eat and how much I exercise.  It’s worked in that I’ve met my immediate goal and have sustained it for many months now, but it all started with a commitment to myself.  Are you ready to commit to being a part of one of our April programs?
