Cleveland & Woodley Park Village is offering an 8 week beginners Tai Chi class starting on Tuesday, March 30 at 2:30 pm.
The weekly session will be held on Zoom and may eventually be held outside, with masks and social distancing, at the Cleveland Park Congregational Church, located at 3400 Lowell Street, NW (diagonal from Eaton Elementary) weather permitting.
The course will be taught by experienced instructor, Jeffrey Robbins. Tai Chi is a mentally challenging martial art that employs softness and stillness to defeat hardness and speed. Its flowing and strength-building movements help improve stress management while increasing flexibility, strength, memory, agility, and balance. It derives its power from the cultivation of internal strength, rather than muscle power. The form we learn in this class is known as the Yang Short Form. Prospective students are expected to be able to stand on one foot for several seconds at a time and to memorize the sequence at the rate of one new move per week.
The cost of the 8 week session is FREE for Village members and $80 for non-members. Village membership is open to anyone and the cost of basic membership is just $300 per year (www.cwpv.org/join) and is fully tax-deductible.
To sign up for this class, please email the Village at info@CWPV.org
