Join the Call Box Walk and Learn About Our Neighborhoods

Thursday, January 27 at 11:00 am Register here

Enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise and learn a little history! Join a tour of our neighborhood's historic call boxes - those ubiquitous neighborhood fixtures date back to the late 19th Century and were the "911" of the day - used to summon police and fire assistance. In 2000 the the Cultural Tourism DC, a non-profit that promotes learning about our local heritage, led an effort to convert the abandoned technology into neighborhood artistic and historical installations.

Each neighborhood picks a theme and color for its boxes and the art on display ranges in style from representational to abstract. The boxes showcase each neighborhood's unique identity.

On this fun walk, weather permitting, we will explore the call boxes of Cleveland and Woodley Park. Masks are required. We will begin our tour at the call box located at 28th Street and Woodley Road in Woodley Park.
