From Frank ... tennis anyone?
One of the biggest jobs for the Village staff is coordinating our social activities calendar. But what you may not know is that many of the fun things we do each month actually started as suggestions from you! And as our membership increases, so does the number and variety of events. We take all ideas and turn as many as we can into organized opportunities.
Which leads me to ask ... tennis anyone? DC's tennis tournament, the CitiOpen, is coming to the Rock Creek Tennis Center July 30 through August 7. One of our newer members is an avid tennis fan and mentioned this tournament to me while at Lunch Bunch. If anyone else is interested in attending, let us know and we’ll put you in touch.
Even if you're not a tennis fan, you may get a lot out of this and similar outings. According to a study published in the Journal of Gerontology, social engagement may help strengthen brain areas associated with dementia and help foster brain health. Something we should all keep in mind.
If you have an idea for a new activity, let me know. Know someone that might enjoy our community, please send them our way! Increasing our membership broadens our interest areas and may just be the key to better health!
Some Upcoming Events
Silvernest Housing Discussion on May 24. Later in the month, on May 24th, we will host a virtual session on Silvernest, the technology that helps older adults find housing partners of all ages. Join us and find out about more, including the possibilities for intergenerational housing.
City Council Candidates Forum on June 1 at 7pm. The Village will be joining our neighboring Villages and IONA, in hosting a virtual candidates forum for the open Ward 3 city council election.
Uptown Shuffle June 5 at 4 pm. Come to the Uptown Shuffle at Sam’s Park & Shop in Cleveland Park. You'll enjoy food from local restaurants, music, face painting, and even some dancing while we help our local businesses thrive despite the ongoing construction.
See our complete calendar of events on our website. Many events are open to the public and some are reserved just for members. Not a member? Well, it’s easy to join as a social member and can even be done online. Hope to see you soon!
