As we close the door on January, I’d like to call your attention to three of the compelling social opportunities the Village has planned for February:
February is Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. On February 23, the Village has arranged a tour of DC’s flagship library, the recently renovated Martin Luther King, Jr Library. A docent will lead us through this really spectacular renovated space with a special focus on the fourth floor, featuring the history and special collections exhibitions including the Washingtoniana collection and the Black Studies Center.
Lunch Bunch in February will be at the Kennedy-Warren apartments on February 15th at noon.
Tuesday Talk returns on February 21 at the Cleveland Park library, featuring Mark Bucher, co-owner of Medium Rare and founder of Feed the Fridge. Mark will talk about hunger in our city and efforts that are being made to address it. Personally, I was alarmed when I read Feed America’s latest report, the State of Senior Hunger in America. That report revealed that DC has the highest rate of food insecurity among seniors in the country. I’m interested in learning more about efforts Mark has organized to address this challenge with Feed the Fridge.
Check our events list for a full list of upcoming activities. And you can RSVP on our calendar to reserve your spot on any that sound interesting.
And don’t forget, your input on programs of interest is most important. Please join our Program Team to help us identify member interests or to assist in the planning of our social outings. We can’t do it without you! If you’re interested, call the Village office at 202-615-5853 or send us an email at info@CWPV.org
