From Frank ... Happy Older Americans Month!

You might not feel it from the temperature, but in two days it will be May and officially Older Americans Month! Older Americans Month has been a time to acknowledge the contributions of past and current older persons, in particular those who have defended our country. President Biden is expected to follow the example of every president since Kennedy and issue a formal proclamation asking the nation pay tribute in some way to the older persons in our communities. We'll share his 2022 proclamation next week.

Last week I browsed our Village directory and was awestruck by the diverse contributions and accomplished lives of our members. If you haven't done it, I highly recommend it. You'll see that Village members have served our country as diplomats, run non-profit organizations, have worked in international development, or as journalists for major newspapers, protected our environment through work at Friends of the Earth, held federal positions in the IRS, Federal Trade Commission, the National Park Service, the Department of Justice, State, and Health and Human Services. Others have enjoyed long careers as therapists, attorneys, meteorologists, educators, chemical engineers, seismologists, musicians, archivists, writers, entrepreneurs, and dancers.

The theme for Older American's Month in 2022 is “Age My Way!” That's something we know something about, our members represent about every type of living lifestyle. Some members are live with spouses, some alone, and others with family members. They each choose their path and oftentimes, the Village is part of that decision. We want to be there for those that need a little helping hand from one of our trusted volunteers. The Village movement and our own Village community started with discussions around kitchen tables. Neighbors committed to helping neighbors. As I’ve said previously, we are essentially an intentional community where people come together to help others age their way!

If you’re not already a member, you’re always welcome! Visit our website’s membership page for complete details or send an email and we’ll help you join our great, diverse community.

And happy Older American's Month. I salute you all.
