From Frank...

I know this is our monthly newsletter for April, but since we’re technically still in March, I feel compelled to recognize and celebrate the end of Women’s History Month. Of course, as the son of a single-mother and brother to six older sisters, all my role models as a young child were women. As I’ve mentioned in this column previously, growing up in the ‘70s during the debate for the Equal Rights Amendment and then seeing Geraldine Ferraro as the first vice-presidential nominee in 1984, along with my first-hand experience that women can do anything, has made me a proud feminist. So, I hope that we can all individually and collectively recognize the many women in our lives and their great contributions. For those still with us, it’s never too late to say thank you!
Likewise in April, we’ll celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month. Throughout the month, I am going to try to share a bit of my view of volunteers by highlighting some of the amazing work that I feel so privileged to witness. So, please stay tuned to this space for what I know will be some inspiring stories of dedication, selflessness, and service to others. Also, in April, we have some great events planned including some special events, such as a Lunch & Learn program on Yiddish Theater, a docent-led tour of the Renwick to see the State Fairs exhibit, a Sunday Supper featuring Fat Pete’s BBQ, and a fascinating Tuesday Talk by award-winning author and journalist Wil Haygood explores in his new book about how the Vietnam War became a mirror for the struggle of Black Americans. Also, the new (in-person) Village Book Club, Chapter 3, will meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 2-4pm. More members of the Village are welcome to join in at the next meeting on April 28th. The group will discuss The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride. These are just some highlights but the full calendar of events is below and members should check for the mailed calendars in their mailboxes next week.
Have a great weekend. For those celebrating Passover next week, I wish you Chag Pesach sameach! Read the entire newsletter for more programs and events right here.
