From Frank… It’s hard to believe it’s already time for our February newsletter, especially given the unseasonal warm weather. But here we are, planning for Valentine’s Day and celebrating Black History Month. On Valentine’s Day, February 14, at noon, we’ll have a special Lunch Bunch at The Broadmoor which can accommodate many more people than a restaurant. It will be a great time for members and volunteers to come together for a little camaraderie in a relaxed setting. We will have a lunch of soup and sandwiches, and of course, we’ll have a special fun dessert! The cost of the lunch will be $25 per person. Call the office at 202-615-5853 to register. For
those not able to join us, we’ll also be delivering some fun Valentines. Please call us if you have any food allergies or would prefer not to receive a Valentine.
Tour of The National Museum of African American History & Culture in Honor of Black History Month Then, on the last day of the month, Thursday, February 29, we have reservations for up to 25 members and volunteers to go the National Museum of African American History and Culture. We will gather at 12:30 pm to have lunch together before a docent led tour of the museum starting at 2:15. One of my fondest memories from when I first started, which was right before the pandemic, is a trip to the wonderful museum with a Village group. I remember being amazed with the number of individuals in our group who were present at the Lincoln Memorial to hear Dr. King’s famous speech. Then people were sharing memories of various ways that they were involved in the Civil Rights movement. I was so inspired to learn more about our members and their rich lives.
