Social Security Number Suspension Scams






The Bowser administration is warning DC residents about an increase in telephone and online scams targeting their Social Security numbers and other personal information. Among DC's tips on how to avoid becoming a victim: "Never reveal sensitive personal information such as your Social Security number or bank account information when answering an unsolicited call." Officials also noted that the U.S. government does not suspend Social Security numbers, notwithstanding the claim common in many of the scams.
