A shorter than normal update this week, and it's all about COVID. There are two important news items that should be exciting for all of us:
For the first time in many months, the level of community spread of COVID within DC is low! And DC is currently designated a 'low risk" area by the CDC on their new COVID risk tracker.
So, effective March 1, Mayor Bowser has allowed the indoor mask requirement to lapse, but businesses may opt to have stricter requirements if they wish. She had previously determined not to renew the vaccine requirement for restaurants and places of business.
As the Village returns to indoor activities, we will require proof of COVID vaccination and booster for staff, volunteers, and members, so if you’ve not already provided proof of vaccination, please call or text the office at 202-615-5853 or email us at info@cwpv.org. You only need to show once, and we'll keep the record on file.
Get your Booster. Get your Booster. Get your Booster.
All this is good news - but let's not let our guard down. While DC estimates that roughly 73% of residents are fully vaccinated, the number of older adults that have received the booster lags significantly. You can see the vaccination and booster rates by ages here. The Village is here to help, so please contact the office if you would like assistance obtaining a vaccine or booster. Next week, we will have free masks and more antigen tests for anyone that would like them. Stay tuned to your email regarding their availability.
Now, enjoy the warming weather!
Frank Finamore is Executive Director of the Village.
