One of the best parts of my job is speaking with members. Each member has such an interesting story and collectively we are an amazingly interesting community with rich variety of interests, life experiences, and talents. This week I had the opportunity to visit with a couple from Woodley Park and welcome them as new members! It’s wonderful to welcome longtime residents of the area to our Village community and to learn their stories that add so much to our Village story.
We Want You in the Village Directory
Which brings me to the membership directory that is currently undergoing finishing touches. If you haven't already, I encourage anyone that wants to be included (and you decide what information is included, by the way) to send us an email right away. We still need to hear from a few of you.
I cannot overemphasize the importance of the directory as a means of connecting our community. More than once I've heard a member say some version of “Feel free to give me a call sometime. I’m in the directory!” The directory also facilitates direct communication among members when there’s a concern. It’s very beneficial for me to be able to say to a concerned member/friend, “I can’t give out personal information, but perhaps you can give them a call or send an email. Their contact information is in the directory!”
As a reminder, the directory will only be available in hard copy and will only be distributed to members and our board of directors. This is because your privacy is important to us.
Still Space Left to Join the Arboretum Trip
Finally, next Thursday, our cultural outing will be to the U.S. National Arboretum. It’s a splendid time of year to visit and I’m always in awe of the majestic and historic Capitol columns that they’ve erected on the hill. There’s still room to join the group in an outdoor excursion. It’s a wonderful way to see some lesser known sites of our great city while spending time with others. Many thanks to Carolyn Kulisheck who plans these cultural excursions each month!
P.S. If you missed Terence Samuel’s Tuesday Talk, you can still watch it here. He’s a Woodley Park resident and Managing Editor of National Public Radio.
